Belo Horizonte!
Hello gang,
A couple weeks ago we had the opportunity to go to Belo Horizonte to see one of the 12 apostles, Elder Ulisses Soares. Who is Brazilian and actually served as a missionary in an area in my mission! Unfortunately because of the passing of Elder Ballard, he wasn't able to come and talk in person, but it was still cool. They rigged the chapel out with cameras and a big screen in front so we were still able to see each other and communicate. It was a really cool experience being able to hear him share experiences from his mission but also it was really cool to hear his experience serving as a general authority in a church who's standard language of communication is different than his own.
And again this conference happened in Belo Horizonte, which is the capital of the state I'm in, Minas Gerais. And a different mission! So for the first time in 20 months I left the mission boundaries. It was a long trip, starting on Friday afternoon at 3 PM to get to BH at 6 AM Saturday and then after the conference back to my area before church on Sunday morning.
I feel like in the past two weeks I've done more traveling than missionary work haha. I was out of my area for an exchange this last week and once again I'm here in Juiz de Fora for zone conference tomorrow.
A couple weeks ago we met this guy named Adão (Adam in Portuguese) on the street while we were looking for someone we had met a couple days prior. Adão stopped us because we were Americans and he was looking for some help with English on a project. We told him we were happy to help but the best time to find us was at church on Sunday (ifykyk) He came and it turns out he was one of the early investigators of the Church in Muriaé and a bunch of the long time members know him! He loved church and has even accepted baptism. He said several times while we've taught him that everything seems so different than when he first investigated the church. We explained to him that it wasn't the church that changed, but that God prepared him to receive the gospel at this time.
Love you guys
