I'm a DAD!
Hello everybody!
We had transfers a couple weeks ago and I'm training for my last transfer!
My new comp is named Elder Wagner and he's from Lake Stevens, Washington. He's almost a foot taller then me so we're a pretty dynamic duo haha. He did the MTC in Provo so he just got here to Brazil and it's been fun and challenging helping him adjust to Brazilian life. It's reminded me a lot of how I felt when I got here and all the things I learned from my trainer. I've kind of forgotten how different things are here in Brazil cause I've just gotten used to it.
The food, language, etc. But even simple stuff like using the bathroom, cleaning the house, and walking on the sidewalk is surprisingly different. It's been a little tough for him to adjust so I've had to slow down my routine a little to help him.
But that doesn't mean the work is slowing down. We still have a decent amount of progressing investigators and people coming to church but unfortunately a lot of these people have serious problems with addictions: alcohol, cigarettes, and even drugs. We're trying our best to help them but it's difficult and slow going. I really hope I'll be able to help these people stop and be baptized before I leave.
The week before Elder Wagner got here I didn't have a comp for a few days so I was in a trio for a bit then worked with some other elders in their areas which was pretty fun cause I got to hang out with some of the mission friends.
Also something that was kinda funny, the power went out in our apartment earlier in the week and we were trying to figure out how to get it back on. We were looking around for the breaker but the one we found was still on so we were really confused. So for like 3 days we were trying to figure this out until eventually we realized that the actual breaker was in the bottom floor of the building and was turned off. So basically we spent 3 days without electricity just because we are stupid.
Had a really cool experience this week knocking doors. We were trying to find the house of a media referral when we figured out they put the wrong address. We asked around if anyone knew her until eventually found what we thought to be her house. We knocked on the door and some dude inside yelled "não posso sair, estou cagando" (I'll let you put that in Google translate if you want haha) so we moved on. I had a fairly strong impression that I had to talk to this dude sitting on the curb. So we started chatting it up and that turned into about a 30 min discussion about the restoration right there on the curb. He expressed to us that he was losing his faith in God, which is an incredibly rare thing for a Brazilian to say. In just a couple days he's read the book of mormon and come to church! That's just one of many times here in the mission that I know God has led me to one of His children who needed someone to remind him of His love.
I love the mission and don't have many more of these emails! (Maybe one or two more idk) but I'm also very excited to come home and see all of you guys again! Have a great week!
